As a leader in the legal business community, Phillips Lytle is dedicated to the communities we serve. The firm’s attorneys lead, sponsor, and serve on professional and civic organizations that advance diversity in the business community and workplace. In August 1998, Phillips Lytle became a signatory to the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s Statement of Goals for the Retention and Promotion of Women. In May 1999, Phillips Lytle became a signatory to the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s Restatement and Reaffirmation of Goals of New York Law Firms and Corporate Legal Departments for Increasing Minority Retention and Promotion. Peyton Gibson, a member of our Diversity Committee, is currently on the Legal Momentum (formerly NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund) Board of Legal Advisors, and formerly a member of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals Task Force on Gender, Racial, and Ethnic Fairness.

Phillips Lytle is also committed to community-based volunteerism. In 1994, the Buffalo office established the Volunteer Crew, which is managed through a committee of Phillips Lytle employees. This core team of 12 volunteers recruits and coordinates more than 100 full-time attorneys and staff of the firm, along with their family members. Thousands of hours are spent delivering meals, partnering with clients in school mentoring programs, staffing community events, cleaning, painting, and assisting community organizations in need.
