Dr. Clower focuses his practice in the area of intellectual property where he possesses a breadth of experience concerning worldwide patent procurement, including prosecuting and preparing patent applications in the fields of microbiology, immunology, oncology, cancer therapeutics, molecular/cellular biology, pharmaceuticals, vaccine biology, DNA-RNA and molecular diagnostics, medical devices, small-molecule inhibitors, hydrogel technology, cell/cell-sheet and stem cell technologies, and various other biotechnology/chemical areas.
Dr. Clower also has experience in drafting non-infringement/invalidity opinions, freedom-to-operate assessments, and patentability evaluations for individual inventors, university clients, small biotechnology companies, and FORTUNE® 500 clients.
Prior to joining Phillips Lytle, Dr. Clower was an associate at Foley & Lardner, LLP and LeClairRyan, PC. He also previously assisted the University at Buffalo Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach (STOR) by drafting patentability assessments.
Dr. Clower served as a graduate research fellow during law school, where he was the recipient of the 2009 ABA and BNA Award for Excellence in the study of IP law and the 2008 Harold A. Dautch Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Clower received his doctorate in microbiology and immunology, and was the recipient of the Pre-Doctorate Training Grant Fellowship for microbial pathogenesis during his graduate education. He earned his bachelors degree in recombinant gene technology while also obtaining a minor in chemistry.
